Staytill

How long can I stay in Greece?

Greek island summers run long, and many of them take a detour to Cyprus. That detour matters, because the days you spend on Cyprus do not use up your ninety.

Cyprus, a pause in the count

Greece and Cyprus sit side by side on a summer itinerary, but only one of them is in the Schengen area today. Cyprus is in the EU but still joining the Schengen area: it takes part in Schengen cooperation, and its internal border controls have not been lifted.45

Time on Cyprus lets older days slide out of your window while you stay in the region. When Cyprus joins, that pause ends.

Worked example

A Greek summer with a break in Cyprus

  1. You spend 1 June to 30 July 2027 in Greece and fly to Larnaca on 30 July: 60 Schengen days.6How we count: 1 June to 30 July 2027, both days included, is 60 days.
  2. A month in Cyprus adds nothing to that count.51How we count: Only days in the Schengen area count, and Cyprus has not yet joined it.
  3. Back in Athens on 29 August, the summer days are still in your window: 30 remain, and 27 September 2027 is your last day.1How we count: 29 August to 27 September 2027 is 30 days; 60 plus 30 makes 90.

Your own count

A summer that moves between Greek islands and Cyprus is two counts on one trip. Logged day by day, the split takes care of itself.
