Privacy policy
Your days are counted on your phone. Here is what stays there and the little that leaves it.
Effective date:
The short version
Staytill counts the days you spend in each country, and it does that work on your phone, iPhone or Android. Your location history, your trips and your settings stay on your device. Staytill has no server holding your days.
Only two things ever leave your phone, and both are there to keep the app working:
- Purchases. If you subscribe, Apple (on iPhone) or Google Play (on Android) handles the payment and RevenueCat confirms your subscription, so Pro unlocks on your phone.
- Crash reports, only if you say yes. If the app crashes, Staytill asks before sending a technical report to Firebase Crashlytics, so we can fix the bug. You can turn reports on or off any time in You.
Neither of them carries your location, your trips, your name or your email address.
Who we are
Staytill is made by Lorenzo Montes, who is the data controller for the processing described in this policy.

What stays on your phone
Everything Staytill needs to count your days is stored inside the app on your phone:
- Location points. When automatic tracking is on, Staytill saves each location fix it receives: latitude, longitude, time and accuracy.
- Your days. The country Staytill works out for each day, and whether that day is confirmed or still waiting for you to confirm it.
- Trips you add or edit. Countries, dates and any note you write.
- Your setup. The rules you track (for example Schengen 90/180 or a 183-day line), your passports, your home base, the goals you picked in setup, and your reminder choices.
We never receive any of this. It stays on your phone until you delete it.
How location works
Staytill asks for your location so it can record which country you are in each day.
- What we ask for. On iPhone, first "While Using the App", then "Always". On Android, first "While using the app", then "Allow all the time". The second step keeps days counting while the app is closed. You can choose either, or say no and add your trips by hand.
- How it is captured on iPhone. Staytill uses Apple's low-power location services (significant location changes and visits).
- How it is captured on Android. Staytill uses Google Play services' low-power location: a boundary of a few kilometres around your last place that tells the app when you leave it, location updates the phone already has for other apps, and a check every few hours. Staytill does not run continuous GPS, and it shows no permanent notification.
- How it becomes a country. The country borders are built into the app. Your location points are matched to a country on your phone, with no internet connection needed and nothing sent to us or anyone else.
- What we keep. Staytill keeps your location points on your phone so it can recount your days and show you the evidence behind every number.
You can change location access at any time: on iPhone in Settings, Privacy & Security, Location Services, Staytill; on Android in Settings, Apps, Staytill, Permissions, Location. You can also turn automatic tracking (Auto-assist) off inside Staytill, in You.
What leaves your phone
Purchases: Apple or Google Play, and RevenueCat
On iPhone, subscriptions are sold through the App Store and Apple processes your payment. On Android, subscriptions are sold through Google Play and Google processes your payment. We never see your card, your Apple ID or your Google account details. Apple's and Google's own privacy policies cover that.
To check whether your subscription or free trial is active, Staytill uses RevenueCat, Inc. RevenueCat receives your purchase and subscription history from the App Store or Google Play, together with a random ID that RevenueCat creates for this app on your phone and basic technical details such as your app version and device type. That ID is not linked to your name, your email, your Apple ID or your Google account. We use this information to unlock Pro, restore your purchase on a new phone, and understand how many people subscribe.

Crash reports: Firebase Crashlytics
Crash reports are off until you choose to send them. When Staytill crashes, the report waits on your phone; the next time you open the app we ask whether to send it. Choose Send report, Always send (which turns on Crash reports in You), or Don't send, which deletes it. A report you send goes to Firebase Crashlytics, a service from Google, and contains:
- what the app was doing when it crashed (the technical error and its stack trace);
- your device model, operating system version, app version, and the device's memory and disk size;
- a random installation ID, so we can tell how many people a bug affects.
Crash reports contain no location, no trips and no settings. Staytill does not use Google Analytics or any other Firebase service. Google keeps crash reports for 90 days and then deletes them.

Backups and exports you make
You can save your data yourself:
- Backup. One file with everything on your phone, including your location points, trips and settings. You save it where you choose, for example iCloud Drive, Google Drive or your phone's files, and you can restore from it later.
- CSV export. A spreadsheet of your days, for example for your accountant.
Both files go only where you send them, through your phone's share sheet. We never receive a copy. Once a file is saved in a cloud drive, sent by email or opened in another app, the privacy terms of that service apply to it. A backup file is not encrypted by Staytill, so keep it somewhere you trust.
If your phone backs itself up (iCloud Backup or a computer backup on iPhone, Google backup on Android), that backup includes Staytill's data, as it does for your other apps. That backup is between you and Apple or Google.
Reminders
Staytill can remind you before you reach a day limit, and two days before a free trial ends. These reminders are scheduled on your phone. No reminder passes through us. You can turn them off in Staytill or in your phone's notification settings.
When you write to us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to answer you, and keep it only as long as we need to help you.
Why we process data (legal bases)
For people covered by the GDPR and UK GDPR:
- Your location, trips and settings are processed on your own phone, for you, with the location permission you give in iOS or Android. We do not receive them.
- Purchase and subscription data (Apple or Google, RevenueCat) is processed to provide the subscription you bought: performance of a contract, Article 6(1)(b).
- Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics) are sent only with your consent, Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and Article 122 of the Italian Privacy Code, which you can withdraw any time in You. Reports carry no location and no name.
- Emails you send us are processed to answer you: legitimate interest, Article 6(1)(f).
How long data is kept
- On your phone: until you delete it in Staytill, or delete the app.
- Crash reports: 90 days at Google, then deleted.
- Purchase records: for as long as needed to manage your subscription, and as long as tax and accounting rules require.
- Emails: only as long as we need to help you.
Your choices and your rights
- Turn location off in your phone's settings or inside Staytill. You can keep using the app by adding trips by hand.
- Delete all data. In Staytill, go to You, then Delete all data. This erases your trips, your days, your location points and your settings from your phone, and stops automatic tracking.
- Delete the app. Your phone removes everything Staytill stored on it. Copies inside earlier phone backups, or backup files you saved yourself, stay where they are until you remove them.
- Cancel your subscription on iPhone in Settings, your name, Subscriptions; on Android in the Google Play app, your profile, Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions.
Depending on where you live, you also have the right to access the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, receive a copy of it, restrict or object to its processing, and withdraw consent where we rely on it. To use any of these rights, write to hello@staytill.com. Because purchase records and crash reports carry no name, we may ask for a detail that helps us find them, such as the date of your purchase. We will answer within one month.
You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Ads and tracking
Staytill shows no ads. We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, we do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising.
Children
Staytill is made for adults who travel. It is not directed at children under 13, or under 16 where local law sets that age, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has sent us information, write to us and we will delete it.
International transfers
RevenueCat and Google may process data in the United States and other countries. When data leaves the European Economic Area or the UK, it is protected by the safeguards these providers offer under the GDPR, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Security
Your data on your phone is protected by your phone's own security, including your passcode, fingerprint or face unlock. Data sent to RevenueCat and Firebase travels over encrypted connections.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Staytill handles data, we will update this page and the effective date at the top.
