How long can I stay in Georgia?
Georgia gives Americans and Britons something rare: a full year, no visa. The catch is the second clock inside it, because Georgia counts tax days too, and half a year there is enough to cross that line.
The tax count inside the visa year
A year visa-free is long enough to become a resident for tax without meaning to. 183 or more days in Georgia in any unbroken 12-calendar-month period that ends in the tax year make you a Georgian resident for that whole tax year.11 Time abroad specifically for treatment, leisure, a business trip or education also counts as time in Georgia.12
Worked example
Six months in Tbilisi
- You cross into Georgia on 10 January 2027 on a British passport: your year is counted from that crossing.413
- Stay on to 11 July 2027 and you reach 183 days in Georgia, the line for Georgian tax residency, with half your visa-free year still ahead.11How we count: 10 January to 11 July 2027, both days included, is 183 days.
- A day in Georgia counts as a day of stay whatever the length of your stay that day.14
